The following are performance projects made in collaboration with neurodiverse individuals in a creative dance class setting. Goals for each include:
- individual choice making
- group decision making
- performing together and alone
In order to highlight unique movement styles, participants composed their dances in the moment. Sometimes dancing with a partner, sometimes solo, a practice called "One to Ten" guided individual choice making, beginnings, and ends. Anyone could start group movement (including audience members) by calling out a movement prompt.
Each participant chooses a movement to go with their name as part of a growing movement sequence all learn and perform together.
Making this dance began with a discussion around what it means to show kindness to others. From those ideas, participants generated movement in small groups that became the final kindness dance. Everyone worked together to choreograph what "listening", "forgiving", "sharing", and "helping" look like in the body, contributing their own ideas and collaborating with others.
